SUMMARY:Botanic Garden - Community Nature Immersion
DESCRIPTION:Nature & Forest Therapy with Elena Ríos\, Certified Nature & Forest Therapy Guide. \n \nHonoring Ancestral Knowledge and rooted in practices of mindfulness\, this class is an invitation to step into nature’s rhythms and experience a profound sense of calm and interconnection. As the class begins\, we’ll gather in the garden to slow down and transition into a peaceful\, natural setting. Our time together may include gentle\, mindful walking as we explore\, pausing for moments of silent observation and listening. Experience the health benefits of Forest Bathing—a practice of simply being present with the sights\, sounds\, and sensations around you\, allowing the mind to settle and the body to relax. Through a series of guided prompts\, you’ll be encouraged to notice the plants that capture your attention and feel a quiet connection to the world around you. \n \nAlong the way\, tune into your breath and the earth beneath your feet. You’ll listen deeply to the sounds of nature\, allowing any stress to dissolve and your nervous system to reset. By the end of the class\, you may notice a newfound clarity and a deeper sense of presence. \n \nThe experience concludes with a sharing of tea with some nourishing snacks. This gathering will allow time to reflect on what you’ve experienced and connect with fellow participants. \n \nGuests registered for this event will meet Elena behind the Entrance Kiosk. \n \nPricing: \nGarden Members: $20 \nGeneral Public: $35 \n \nGuests are advised to wear comfortable shoes for walking and layered clothing\, and to be prepared to walk through various sections of the Garden. Participants will be sitting on the ground during this experience\, therefore it is advisable to bring a towel or mat to sit on. Although the Garden is dog-friendly\, participants are asked to not bring their dog(s) to this event.

SUMMARY:Nature & Forest Therapy with Elena Ríos
DESCRIPTION:Ancient human practices of nature connection are rooted in ancestral Indigenous Knowledge all over the world. Elena’s style of guiding is informed by her experience as a Cultural Practitioner and First Responder. Unlike a naturalist walk\, it isn’t so much about knowing all of the names of the plants\, as it is about noticing which plants that you feel pulled to. It is more about being “here” in the present moment\, then it is about being “there”. You may begin to notice things in a way that you may not have ever noticed them before. An integrative mindfulness practice that can help us to let all of the miscellaneous fall away. A kind of nervous system “reset”. It has the potential to remind us of the Interconnection of All Things and our relationship to the Earth. \nAlthough the Garden is dog-friendly\, participants are asked to not bring their dog(s) to this event. \n \nPricing: \nGarden Members: $25 \nGeneral Public: $40 \n \nAbout Elena: \nElena Ríos is an ever evolving ANFT Certified Nature & Forest Therapy Guide and Inter-disciplinary Artist. From an early age\, Elena’s family cultivated in her an interest in the exploration and appreciation of nature and the more-than-human world. Elena Continues to participate with traditional circles of learning\, wellness\, and ways of being that are rooted in Indigenous knowledge. She believes this practice has the potential to assist us in noticing the Interconnectedness of All Things. She draws inspiration from her grandmother\, who was a curandera. She has had a partnership as a cultural practitioner with Japanese Shinto Priest\, Hiroji Seikiguchi for almost 20 years. Currently\, she is an employee of the Chumash Fire Department\, Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians. She is an indigenous Azteca Chichimeca woman of the Americas with distant genetic Chumash links including multi-ethnic Spanish\, Scot-Irish ancestry. Her guide style is informed by all of these previous life experiences.

SUMMARY:Botanic Garden - Forest Bathing
DESCRIPTION:Forest bathing honors the ancient human practices of nature connection. Elena Rios will give you directions in the form of invitations to assist you in slowing down and observing with all of your senses. It isn’t so much about knowing all of the names of the plants as it is about noticing which plants you feel pulled to. It is more about being “here” in the moment. As you “bathe” in the fresh air and immune-boosting phytoncides\, you may begin to notice things in a way you may not have ever noticed them before. This practice can potentially remind us of the Interconnection of All Things and our relationship to the Earth. The event ends with a ceremony of sharing tea made from locally foraged native plants and some healthy snacks. All you have to do is come and be yourself…and reconnect with nature and the more-than-human world. This walk includes slight downhill and uphill inclines on terrain that is rocky and uneven in certain portions. \n \nAlthough the Garden is dog-friendly\, participants are asked not to bring their dog(s) to this event. \n \nGuests will meet Elena behind the Entrance Kiosk. \n \nPricing:\nGarden Members: $25 \nGeneral Public: $35 \n \nAbout Elena Ríos:\nElena Ríos is an ever-evolving ANFT Certified Nature & Forest Therapy Guide and Inter-disciplinary Artist. SUMMARY:Botanic Garden - Morning Bird Walk
DESCRIPTION:During our walk\, we may see signs of the breeding season: nesting resident species like Dark-eyed Junco\, Black Phoebe\, Song Sparrow\, and Spotted Towhee. We’ll also be looking for some of our migrant species: Western Tanager\, Black-headed Grosbeak\, Hooded Oriole\, and Yellow Warbler – some just passing through\, some stopping to breed in our region. Both beginner and experienced birders will appreciate the diverse and beautiful birds that make their home among a variety of California’s native plants in the meadow\, woodlands\, and creek side. \n \nAlthough the Garden is dog-friendly\, participants are asked not to bring their dog(s) to this class. \n \n \n \nPricing and registration:\nGarden Members: $20 \nGeneral Public: $30 \nRegistration is now open! \n \n \n \nAbout Rebecca Coulter:\nRebecca Coulter has been birding in the Santa Barbara region for over 20 years. She is the head compiler for the annual Audubon Christmas Bird Count in Santa Barbara and enjoys sharing Santa Barbara’s rich bird diversity and wide range of habitats with new birders.
