SUMMARY:Point Sal Hiking Trail
DESCRIPTION:The rocks that make up Point Sal State Beach represent one of the most intact and complete cross sections of oceanic crust visible on land. Oceanic crust comprises of 60% of the earth’s crust\, yet we rarely have opportunities to see it and study its formation. The rocks at the park record geologic conditions that indicate submarine origin and widespread transport via plate tectonics. Oceanic crust is a produced at ocean spearing centers and consumed in subduction zones. Views of the coastline\, beach and rugged mountain slopes are exceptional. Lion Rock\, located offshore\, is an important bird-roosting site and is also used by sea lions and other marine mammals. \n \nThe park consists of approximately 80 acres and includes just over 1 1/2 miles of ocean frontage. Lands above the beach and rocky shoreline have extremely steep slopes\, and numerous landslides are evident. Prime examples of coastal sage and chaparral communities occur on these slopes. Giant coreopsis is abundant in the area and dominates wildflower displays in the spring. Public access to Point Sal SB is available via Brown Road. No civilian access is available through Vandenberg Space Force Base. Motor vehicle access\, bicycle access\, and camping are not permitted. Access is from sunrise to sunset for recreational purposes only. \n \nPlease arrive 10-15 minutes early to get ready for this scenic adventure. \n \nDon’t miss out on the stunning views and nature insights. See you on the trail! \n \nSign up today! https://square.link/u/wXnYfawe \n

SUMMARY:Tour at the North Campus Open Space
DESCRIPTION:UCSB’s North Campus Open Space (NCOS) comprises 136 acres of upland and wetland habitats contiguous with and augmenting the greater Elwood-Devereux Open Space. The project has restored wetland and associated upland habitats that existed before the area was converted to the Ocean Meadows golf course in the 1960s\, which filled in the historic upper arms of Devereux Slough with soil from the surrounding uplands. The NCOS restoration project began in 2017 with a fine scale grading of the site in order to re-create the salt marsh and use the excavated soil to rebuild the upland habitats. \n \nPlease RSVP to ncos@ccber.ucsb.edu.

SUMMARY:Urban Creeks Stroll — San Antonio Creek Trail!
DESCRIPTION:Join the Land Trust for a creek stroll celebrating Santa Barbara Creek 2024 on Thursday\, September 26th\, 2024\, from 1 pm – 3 pm as we experience the wonders of nature by exploring the shaded woodland path on the San Antonio Creek Trail in Tucker’s Grove County Park. There are multiple stops and interactive activities throughout this event. Restroom and water are available at the dedicated parking lot. Trail is a combination of shaded and exposed\, with minor elevation gains. There are a few creek crossings\, so good hiking shoes recommended. Please no dogs on this hike. \n \nLand Trust Treks are a free\, public series of guided hikes for the community to explore scenic Santa Barbara County and to meet your local Land Trust. This event is in partnership with Santa Barbara Creek Week 2024 \, an annual celebration of our creeks\, watersheds\, and the ocean.
