SUMMARY:Sierra Club Hike - Weekly on Friday Mornings
DESCRIPTION:We meet at the fountain in front of the mission at 9:30 AM in the morning for the morning hike. These hikes are on the front country trails behind Santa Barbara and Montecito. Dress appropriately with hiking boots\, comfortable clothes and bring at least a liter of water in your backpack or fanny pack. Bring sunscreen and bug repellant when necessary.  \n \nThe morning hike leaves at 9:30 AM SHARP and we get back between 11:30 AM and noon. There are no dogs allowed on the hikes for safety concerns. The hike is approximately 4 miles\, 2 miles up and 2 miles back. These hikes are appropriate for beginners in good health. We will carpool to the hike from the mission. SUMMARY:Arroyo Hondo Preserve - Nature Hike
DESCRIPTION:Free docent-led nature hikes are offered at 10:00 am on Saturdays of open weekends. Visitors can also hike on their own on these days. Hikes are free of charge; however\, donations to help support Arroyo Hondo Preserve and the work of the Land Trust for Santa Barbara County are gratefully accepted. Everyone is welcome to visit the Preserve to hike\, picnic\, paint\, volunteer\, or research\, but advance reservations are required. \n \nOnline reservations can be made here: https://www.sblandtrust.org/arroyo-hondo-preserve-reservations/ \n \nDue to the sensitivity of the resources in the canyon\, dogs\, mountain bikes\, horses\, hunting\, fishing\, and campfires are not allowed. \n \n \nDirections to the Preserve\nTraveling northbound on the U.S. Highway 101: The Preserve is about a 30-minute drive from downtown Santa Barbara. Approximately 4 miles past Refugio State Beach\, you will see a blue “Rest Area in 7 miles” sign followed closely by a yellow warning sign about falling rocks. The entrance to Arroyo Hondo is in 1/2 mile and will be visible on the right at the bottom of the hill. Make a right-hand turn into the driveway. Come down the driveway\, cross the bridge on the right and park near the barn.

DESCRIPTION:During this walk you may see several types of bird species that migrate to our region for the Winter. Our birders may see several types of sparrows\, including the White-crowned\, Golden-crowned\, Fox\, and the occasional White-throated sparrows. Other migrant species that may be spotted in the Garden this season include the Ruby-crowned Kinglet\, Hermit Thrush\, and Yellow-rumped and Townsend’s warblers. Both beginner and experienced birders will appreciate the diverse and beautiful birds that make their home around the Garden.We encourage guests to wear comfortable clothing and shoes for walking around the garden\, and to bring binoculars. DESCRIPTION:Help us restore and create NCOS with plants and more! Meet at 6969 Whittier Drive at 9am. Bring water\, sunscreen\, and wear a hat\, clothes and shoes that are suitable for outdoor work. Please RSVP to ncos@ccber.ucsb.edu. \n \nUCSB’s North Campus Open Space (NCOS) comprises 136 acres of upland and wetland habitats contiguous with and augmenting the greater Elwood-Devereux Open Space. The project has restored wetland and associated upland habitats that existed before the area was converted to the Ocean Meadows golf course in the 1960s\, which filled in the historic upper arms of Devereux Slough with soil from the surrounding uplands. The NCOS restoration project began in 2017 with a fine scale grading of the site in order to re-create the salt marsh and use the excavated soil to rebuild the upland habitats. Come volunteer with us and support your local wetland restoration project!

Everyone is welcome to visit the Preserve to hike\, picnic\, paint\, volunteer\, or research\, but advance reservations are required. \n \nOnline reservations can be made here: https://www.sblandtrust.org/arroyo-hondo-preserve-reservations/ \n \nDue to the sensitivity of the resources in the canyon\, dogs\, mountain bikes\, horses\, hunting\, fishing\, and campfires are not allowed. \n \n \nDirections to the Preserve\nTraveling northbound on the U.S. Highway 101: The Preserve is about a 30-minute drive from downtown Santa Barbara. Approximately 4 miles past Refugio State Beach\, you will see a blue “Rest Area in 7 miles” sign followed closely by a yellow warning sign about falling rocks. The entrance to Arroyo Hondo is in 1/2 mile and will be visible on the right at the bottom of the hill. Make a right-hand turn into the driveway. Come down the driveway\, cross the bridge on the right and park near the barn.

The hike is approximately 4 miles\, 2 miles up and 2 miles back. These hikes are appropriate for beginners in good health. We will carpool to the hike from the mission. DESCRIPTION:Join the Land Trust for a special night hike at our beloved Arroyo Hondo Preserve on Friday\, October 25th from 6 pm to 8:30 pm! Normally only accesible during the daytime\, we invite you to visit the preserve for a guided night hike all about the nocturnal wildlife at Arroyo Hondo! We will rely on our ears and eyes for signs of nocturnal wildlife\, including bats\, owls\, insects\, and much more! \n \nThis stroll will be roughly 2 miles on variable terrain. Some elevation gains are found throughout the trail. A few creek crossings in low visibility will be required\, so hiking shoes recommended. The weather is variable at the preserve\, so dressing in layers is recommended. We will be hiking in low visibility\, please bring your personal headlamp as we have limited numbers to lend. Water\, parking\, and bathrooms available at the preserve. Space is limited\, get your tickets while they last! \n \nLand Trust Treks are a free\, public series of guided hikes for the community to explore scenic Santa Barbara County and to meet your local Land Trust.
