DESCRIPTION:The eBird hotspot for the area boasts 232 species. Waterfowl\, shorebirds\, waders\, raptors\, gulls\, and other species are not uncommon in their season. Goleta Slough is the primary drainage for many of the Goleta Valley / western Santa Barbara area creeks\, providing waterways for birds to move up and down from the Santa Barbara mountains. \n\n\n\n\nTarget Birds:\n\n Herons\nEgrets\nOsprey\nKingfisher\n& Others\n\nDirections:\nFrom the South \n\nTraveling North Bound on Hwy101\nTake Hwy 217 Airport UCSB (Exit 104B)\nFrom Hwy 217 take Exit 1: Santspit Road\nTurn left onto Sandspit Road\n\nFrom the North \n\nTraveling South Bound on Hwy101\nTake the Fairview Avenue off ramp (Exit 105)\nTurn right on Fairview\, head towards ocean\nRoad changes name to Fowler then Moffett and then Sandspit Road\n\nThen for everyone \n\nSandspit Road turns left and continues under the Hwy 217 overpass\nTurn right into Goleta Beach Park and cross the bridge\nTurn left at the stop sign\nPark in the parking lot that’s west (UCSB side) of The Ellwood Restaurant\nWe will meet in the parking lot\nMap Here – or – Google Map\n\nOther Information:\n\nBring water & a snack\nWear comfortable shoes\nBinoculars are a must (borrow ours if you need to)\nSpotting scopes are useful\n\nTrip Coordinator:\n\nKarl Weis\nContact Karl for information or questions

SUMMARY:Sierra Club Hike - Friday Mornings
DESCRIPTION:We meet at the fountain in front of the mission at 9:30 AM in the morning for the morning hike. These hikes are on the front country trails behind Santa Barbara and Montecito. Dress appropriately with hiking boots\, comfortable clothes and bring at least a liter of water in your backpack or fanny pack. Bring sunscreen and bug repellent when necessary. \nThe morning hike leaves at 9:30 AM SHARP and we get back between 11:30 AM and noon. There are no dogs allowed on the hikes for safety concerns. The hike is approximately 4 miles\, 2 miles up and 2 miles back. These hikes are appropriate for beginners in good health. We will carpool to the hike from the mission. If you decide to ride with someone\, please be kind enough to give the driver a dollar per person for their trouble and gas. \nFor more information\, contact the leader Al Sladek at alsladek@gmail.com
