SUMMARY:Botanic Garden - Community Nature Immersion
DESCRIPTION:Nature & Forest Therapy with Elena Ríos\, Certified Nature & Forest Therapy Guide. \n \nHonoring Ancestral Knowledge and rooted in practices of mindfulness\, this class is an invitation to step into nature’s rhythms and experience a profound sense of calm and interconnection. As the class begins\, we’ll gather in the garden to slow down and transition into a peaceful\, natural setting. Our time together may include gentle\, mindful walking as we explore\, pausing for moments of silent observation and listening. Experience the health benefits of Forest Bathing—a practice of simply being present with the sights\, sounds\, and sensations around you\, allowing the mind to settle and the body to relax. Through a series of guided prompts\, you’ll be encouraged to notice the plants that capture your attention and feel a quiet connection to the world around you. \n \nAlong the way\, tune into your breath and the earth beneath your feet. You’ll listen deeply to the sounds of nature\, allowing any stress to dissolve and your nervous system to reset. By the end of the class\, you may notice a newfound clarity and a deeper sense of presence. \n \nThe experience concludes with a sharing of tea with some nourishing snacks. This gathering will allow time to reflect on what you’ve experienced and connect with fellow participants. \n \nGuests registered for this event will meet Elena behind the Entrance Kiosk. \n \nPricing: \nGarden Members: $20 \nGeneral Public: $35 \n \nGuests are advised to wear comfortable shoes for walking and layered clothing\, and to be prepared to walk through various sections of the Garden. Participants will be sitting on the ground during this experience\, therefore it is advisable to bring a towel or mat to sit on. Although the Garden is dog-friendly\, participants are asked to not bring their dog(s) to this event.

SUMMARY:Volunteer Day at the North Campus Open Space
DESCRIPTION:Help us restore and create NCOS with plants and more! Meet at 6969 Whittier Drive at 9am. Bring water\, sunscreen\, and wear a hat\, clothes and shoes that are suitable for outdoor work. Please RSVP to ncos@ccber.ucsb.edu. \n \nUCSB’s North Campus Open Space (NCOS) comprises 136 acres of upland and wetland habitats contiguous with and augmenting the greater Elwood-Devereux Open Space. The project has restored wetland and associated upland habitats that existed before the area was converted to the Ocean Meadows golf course in the 1960s\, which filled in the historic upper arms of Devereux Slough with soil from the surrounding uplands. The NCOS restoration project began in 2017 with a fine scale grading of the site in order to re-create the salt marsh and use the excavated soil to rebuild the upland habitats. Come volunteer with us and support your local wetland restoration project!
