UCSB Nature Walk with 3rd District Supervisor Joan Hartmann!

Sunday, May 5, 2019 · 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

About this activity

Join us on Sunday, May 5th, at 10 am for a nature walk with Supervisor Joan Hartmann on new trails at the North Campus Open Space of UCSB.

The walk around the newly restored upper arms of Devereux Slough will be led by Darwin Richardson, the restoration project manager. The area, which is the former location of a golf course, has been planted with locally sourced native plants to create an ecological wonderland for research, teaching and just plain enjoyment. It is highly recommended to bring binoculars.

Do not miss this opportunity for a tour of an important large-scale habitat restoration of seriously impacted wetlands in an urban setting. The project offers multiple benefits:

  • Improving downstream water quality
  • Reducing flood risk
  • Adapting to climate change
  • Providing opportunities for people to get exercise
  • Connecting to the coastal trail system
  • Enjoying nature and wildlife

In addition to enjoying nature, this is an opportunity to learn more about Supervisor Hartmann’s vision for the future of recreation in Santa Barbara County and how you can become an open-space, trails, and parks advocate in our County.
